Airplanes have always fascinated me as they
allow you to realize one of the most fantastic human dreams - to fly.
Fighters add to the excitement of flying by putting you in a competitive,
dangerous, exhilarating environment.
Similar to many I'm sure, I wanted a carreer as a fighter
pilot and I would have pursued the carreer. Less-than-perfect eyesight
however means that the closest I'll get to pulling 9Gs in an F16 is through
PC flight simulators. (Maybe when I get rich and famous someday I'll be
able to afford a P-51 and pull 4-5 Gs instead!)
At Air Combat I'll generally concentrate on the combat
flightsim that I'm flying at the moment, which might be nothing
at all depending on my time (it's such an annoying thing, time).
A good book and some amazing photography
can also sometimes get you close to that pilot's seat. The best and most
inspiring aviation tome I've read is Chuck Yeager's autobiography which
details the incredible life of this legend. Do yourself a favour and learn
about the man.
To get into a real pilot's head on the other hand, some
good aviation quotes, stories and other misellaneous
trivia can be of help.
Don't forget to check out the links
for many great combat flying resources on the net - there's lots of good
stuff out there.
