Notes on Clay Shirky’s talk:
- Ise Shinto Shrine
- 1300 years old, built of renewable materials. Periodically reubilt out of same materials.
- Unesco: “What we care about is solidity of edifice, not solidity of process.”
- Fight about programming languages is ‘hello’ for techies.
- They didn’t care it worked in practice because they already knew it couldn’t work in theory.
- The ‘solidity’ was on the side of the thing that looked evanescent.
